2016 India Heritage Tour

India Heritage Tour

It is with great excitement that we announce Holt International heritage tours to India!

When you begin a relationship with Holt, you become part of the extended Holt family – and that's a bond that lasts a lifetime! In this spirit, we created Holt heritage tours to give adoptees the opportunity to return to and reconnect with their birth country. Originally designed for adult Korean adoptees, heritage tours have since evolved. In 2005, we began heritage tours to China for adoptees of all ages and their families. We now offer adoptee and family tours of Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, and now…India!

For over 30 years, Holt has worked in India, helping to unite 1,400 children with permanent, loving families in the United States. Today, we hope you will join us on this adventure back to India!

The heritage tour, designed for India adoptees and their families, will be led by Dean Hale, LMSW, director of India programs and services. Having been with Holt's India program since its beginning in the 1970s, Dean has vast knowledge of the India programs, and has visited the country many times.

Trip participants will travel to India with others who share the unique experience of adoption. Together, participants will:

  • Experience Indian food, culture, customs and history while exploring significant historic sites including a trip to the Taj Mahal.
  • Visit Holt's legacy partners, Vathsalya Charitable Trust (VCT) and Bharatiya Samaj Seva Kendra (BSSK) and learn about their many programs benefiting vulnerable children and families.
  • Adoptees may have the option to visit their orphanage and possibly their birth city.
  • Interact with children at VCT and BSSK.
  • Meet other India adoptees and adoptive families.
  • Adoptees may be able to review their adoption file with a social worker and discuss questions they may have about their roots.
