Holt is here for every member of your family throughout your adoption journey. Holt is excited to provide adoption-competent counseling services and education to international or domestic adoptees and adoptive families in Oregon and Illinois. If you live in a different state, we are still available to offer support and trusted referrals. Our experienced therapists specifically focus on the needs of children from hard places and have strong connections to other local providers. Their expertise allows them to holistically support both adoptive families and adoptees.

with your child's teachers or pediatricians — or other professionals serving adopted children — about adoption issues that can impact their academics or behavioral health.

*Payment Options: Holt is an in-network provider for BlueCross BlueShield, PPO and United Healthcare (Optum Behavioral Health). A fee schedule is available for those who do not carry our accepted insurance plans.

Abbie Smith

Abbie Smith, LCSW

An adoptive mother herself, Abbie has practiced clinical social work with both international and domestic adoptees and adoptive families for over 25 years. She holds multiple post-graduate certificates in attachment and trauma and is a Trust Based Relational Intervention®  (TBRI) practitioner and educator. Abbie’s counseling expertise focuses on trauma, adult attachment styles, child attachment and issues that can hinder the development of a secure attachment.

Marissa Robello

Marissa Robello, LMSW, CSWA
Social Worker

Marissa has worked in the field of international adoption for over 13 years. She holds a postgraduate certificate in therapy with foster and adoptive families, and is a Trust Based Relational Intervention®  (TBRI) practitioner and educator. Marissa uses attachment principles and neurobiology to understand the impact of trauma on an adopted child’s relationships and emotional development. This perspective guides her work with families and children, helping those who have experienced challenging life circumstances to feel safe, develop positive relationships and learn self-regulation skills.

Pam Shepard

Pam Shepard, LCSW
Supervisor of Clinical Services

Pam has over 20 years of experience in child welfare and is extensively trained to provide therapy for adopted children, teens, adult adoptees, adoptive parents, birth parents and families. Pam sees clients for individual, family and group therapy, uses a holistic approach and is a Trust-Based Relationship Intervention® (TBRI) practitioner and educator. She is also trained in Theraplay® and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy. Additionally, Pam supervises contract therapists who offer support to children and families in the Chicagoland area. Contract Therapist

Carly is passionate about serving and helping adoptees and their families find their best selves. She has experience working in high-risk situations with children who have severe behavioral issues and trauma backgrounds, and never loses hope to find healing solutions for both children and their families. She uses her eclectic therapeutic approach to build healthy attachments between parents and their adopted children, and she believes that everyone can find hope and healing through attachment work. Carly approaches each family with empathy and provides tools for more peaceful, healthy relationships.
