Mungkorn lived with his mother, step-father, elder brother (son of his step-father) and Fern, elder brother's daughter. His father was a security guard for a local factory, got about 7,000 - 8,000 THB per month. The boy's mother was a daily labor. The family has 3 school going children, so the family therefore was facing the economic difficulty due to educational expenses of the children.
Mungkorn was 7 years and 6 months old when the social worker first met him. His growth met expectation.
Phakaphum or Mungkorn, his nickname is a part of HSF new outreach project on School Based Child and Family Welfare Promotion at Wat Nakaraj Elementary School. The main objective of the project is to promote child and family development through informal group learning activities to students, parents, and school teachers. Shortly after the beginning of the project during end of 2013, it was identified that Mungkorn was under difficult circumstance as his family was facing the economic difficulty. HSF social worker then found it necessary to work with Mungkorn and his family on social casework basis with an aim to strengthen the family situation.
