Children in Holt’s child sponsorship program love to write letters and draw pictures for their sponsors in the U.S. Read recent sponsored child mail, including a letter from 16-year-old Sreypich in Cambodia and a picture from 4-year-old Ngan in Vietnam!
Sixteen-year-old Sreypich lives with her family in Cambodia. She has two siblings — a brother and sister — and together with their parents they live in a small house by the river. Sreypich is in the 11th grade, and with the support of her sponsor, she has everything she needs to stay in school, including supplies, uniforms, shoes and even some pocket money. Both of her parents work, but they struggle to provide for their children on their income. Her father works at a private fishery and her mom tailors clothes.
Sreypich’s social worker says she is a sensitive girl who is deeply affected when she sees sad news in the media. She loves her family very much and has close friends at school who describe her as clever. She hopes to work as an accountant one day and is grateful to her sponsor for helping her continue her education. She especially appreciates receiving messages from them.
Here is what Sreypich wrote to her sponsor in a recent letter:
Ngan is 4 years old and she lives with her father and her paternal grandparents in rural Vietnam. Ngan’s mother left her in her father’s care when Ngan was just one month old, and while her father is devoted to her, he has a medical condition and spends about 80% of his income as a seasonal laborer on hospital fees and medicine.
Ngan’s sponsor makes it possible for her to attend preschool, ensuring she has a safe, nurturing place to go while her adult family members work during the day. She also receives nourishing meals every day at school. With the support of her sponsor, Ngan is a healthy, happy girl who loves playing with dolls, gets along well with her classmates, and is thriving in the care of her family.
Here is a picture that Ngan recently drew for her sponsor:
