Children in Holt’s child sponsorship program love to write letters and draw pictures for their sponsors in the U.S. ! Here’s a letter and a drawing that one teenage boy from Cambodia sent to his sponsors.
Bebe is a 14-year-old boy who lives with his mother, grandmother and older brother in Cambodia. Many years ago, Bebe’s father returned to his native Germany and broke off contact with the family.
Bebe enjoys a warm and loving family life, where his mother does her best to care for her children. His grandmother also tries to help out by making and selling Khmer cakes for extra income, but she recently became ill and is unable to continue.
Bebe is in grade 7 now and loves going to school. He is grateful to his Holt sponsors, whose support provides him with school materials, some pocket money and a bicycle that allows him to travel to classes more easily. At school, Bebe has many friends and works hard at all of his subjects. This year, he has started studying English!
Here is what Bebe wrote in a recent letter:
“My name is Bebe. I’m 14 years old right now. In my free time, I like to play football. I’m deeply thankful to my sponsors for supporting me in education by providing me with school materials and pocket money. The pocket money, I can use it to buy something or school supplies if I need it. I wish sponsors good health and to be surrounded by good people. I’m very excited to get support from sponsors so far and always provide me with school materials.”
