Children in Holt’s child sponsorship program love to thank their sponsors in the U.S. with letters and drawings. Here’s a letter that one young girl from Uganda sent to her sponsors.
Daphine is a 12-year-old girl who lives with her mother, a peasant farmer, in rural Uganda. The family has a small plot of land on which they grow food, but it is usually not enough to sustain them.
Before sponsors began to support her, Daphine lacked certain basic needs like clothing, bedding and school materials. But thanks to her Holt child sponsors, Daphine is now thriving and attending school every day! Earlier this year, Daphine was in the P4 class, where her teacher praised her for being a good student. Daphine especially enjoys social studies, music, dance and drama, and she has many friends at school.
Last June, her school celebrated the International Day of the African Child, where Daphine was reminded of her rights as a child and of the importance of education for all children in Africa. Daphine has also received routine health checkups, essential vitamins and deworming medication through Holt-supported child health days in Uganda.
Daphine is a friendly and social child who enjoys helping her mother with household chores. She is thankful for the assistance she receives from her Holt sponsors and wishes them God’s blessings.
Here is a recent letter that she wrote to her sponsors:
My Sponsor,
How is your life? At home for us, we are okay. How are your family members? How was your Easter? I enjoyed mine, because it was good. This year, I joined P4 class. Thank you for paying my school fees and [for] my Christmas card. I like my school and teachers. At school, my best friend is Hairat. At home, we have a dog, and I love it. I wish you a nice 2024. May God bless.
