Meet Selah! We were able to meet Selah for the second time during our 2024 Special Needs Project trip. During our visit, she interacted well with the adults and other children around. She showed compassion for others, when they were visibly upset, she offered them a hug. She had fun making beaded bracelets with others and gave her creations as gifts to others. She told us she desires to be adopted by a family one day.
Selah was part of our one-day camp with activities for 50+ children. Most of the time, Selah enjoyed sitting next to and spending time with her caregiver. She was participatory during the activities and seemed to have fun interacting with everyone.
Selah says she is good at shopping! At her orphanage, she gets a daily allowance that she will save up to spend at the orphanage’s market. At school, she has 4 different teachers that she describes as kind. Her favorite subject is Thai language. She can do simple addition and subtraction and is currently learning multiplication. Some of her favorite toys include dolls and stickers. Selah has a best friend at her orphanage who she enjoys playing tag games with.
Selah has a complicated heart condition, so her prospective adoptive family needs to have easy access to a specialist for continued care. The family needs to be open to unknowns regarding her medical needs. The family should be familiar with institutionalization and practice TBRI techniques to create an environment of felt safety for Selah.
Selah was featured in June's Thailand Lunch and Learn series where Holt staff talk about their time with her – including their in-person assessment and standout moments with Selah! If you are interested in learning more about Selah, watch the webinar below!
