Meet Derek! Derek is 12 years old and is waiting for a permanent, loving family.
Derek has strong relationships with his caregivers, teachers and peers. He is a calm, cooperative, tender and affectionate boy. He can be shy at first, but when he feels comfortable, he will take the initiative to make friends.
He is currently seeing a psychologist and he has grown in his ability to control his emotions and impulses. Derek says that he wants to be adopted by a mom and dad one day.
An ideal adoptive family for Derek should have access to educational support to help him reach his potential. They should understand how previous experiences impact a child’s attachment.
