Having dealt with attachment issues for the last nine years,
I can't emphasize enough how critical this is for children.
For every time they have a disruption like this in their lives, it makes it so much harder for these kids to trust adults, bond and attach.
The other HUGE problem is this:
Attachment effects them intellectually, emotionally, mentally and physically.
I have seen the first hand effects on my children when their attachment wasn't secure and how it has effected them overall .
Now that they are attached I see the difference in:
their overall health and weight gain, low illness factor, huge jumps in previous learning lags, the disappearance of "learning disabilities" and their ongoing struggle to learn basic things. I have witnessed them being emotionally more secure, have better family and peer relationships, and a higher self esteem.
A huge thing I have noticed is:
they develop better processing skills, ability to reason and make conclusions from their behaviors to the outcome (A very significant problem with children who have little to no attachment) able to begin trusting adults, able to form healthier friendships that are stable.
I have also watched their growth as their intellectual ability increases all around, emotionally they are more stable and can handle upsets more easily or changes in routine. I have experienced them as also develop a conscience (when they are attached) without this, their chances of staying in society and having a normal life are very dim indeed. this is so essential to a long and happy life.
PLEASE be generous with your support to keep these children in foster care.
