, Riverside, CA Reading the words she had practiced many times, Paige Worthington, 9, stood at the flagpole before 400 students in Menifee and asked them to join her in reaching out to quake-shattered China.
“This money will be going toward medicine, food, water even houses. So please give as much as you can,” Paige said, her small voice amplifying out across the Chester W. Morrison Elementary School campus as she spoke into a microphone.
Next week Paige — a slender girl with short black hair — will make the same announcement at Menifee Elementary and Ridgemoor Elementary schools. The money collected will be contributed to the children’s earthquake-relief fund of the Half the Sky Foundation, a charity that specializes in aiding China’s orphans.( read more of this story…)
